Find Out the Top Performers from Ranji Trophy 2021-22 Season

After a hiatus of two years, it was wonderful to see India’s oldest domestic competition back in full flow albeit in a curtailed format. The Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season was played in two phases, on either side of the Indian T20 League season. With just the final left to play in the 2021-22 season, we look at the players who stood out in India’s premier red-ball tournament.

SARFARAZ KHAN | MUMBAI

Mumbai’s shrewd middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan has had a memorable season in domestic cricket. After bursting on the scene in 2014, Sarfaraz left Mumbai cricket and switched allegiances to Uttar Pradesh. That move backfired and set his career back a couple of years.

On his return to Mumbai, we saw a reinvigorated Sarfaraz Khan every time he took the field. The 2021-22 season has been extra special for the right-handed batter as he tops the run-scoring charts in Ranji Trophy. Sarfaraz has scored 803 runs in five matches that includes three brilliant centuries. He has helped Mumbai reach yet another final of the competition and will be a key wicket in that match.

CHETAN BISHT | NAGALAND

The brother of Robin Bisht, a legend of Rajasthan cricket, Chetan Bisht has done exceptionally well in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season. He represents Nagaland, a team in the plate division and was the most prolific run-getter in the competition.

The wicketkeeper batter notched 623 runs in four matches, smashing five centuries in just six innings. He had a dream run in the competition and helped his side top the Plate division and set up a pre-quarterfinal match against Jharkhand. Bisht went on to score an unbeaten 122* in that match as well but the result became clear from Jharkahand’s record-breaking first innings total of 880.

RAJAT PATIDAR | MADHYA PRADESH

When Virat Kohli notices potential in a batter then best believe that person is going to make it big in the sport. Rajat Patidar is one such player who has impressed not just Kohli but plenty now with his exploits in the Indian T20 League.

It’s not just his limited overs batting that is impressive, he is an outstanding long-form batter as well and showed exactly that in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season. Patidar has scored 506 runs in five matches for Madhya Pradesh and helped the side reach the final of the competition for the first time in 23 years.

SHAMS MULANI | MUMBAI

The 25-year-old left-arm spinner from Mumbai, Shams Mulani has by far been the standout bowler of the competition. Mulani, who became a mainstay in the Mumbai Ranji team in the previous season, has grown as a bowler in the current one and it has shown in his wickets tally, 37 victims in five matches.

Mulani is also a handy batter to have in the lower order and that makes him a solid all-round package for Mumbai. The team will be backing him to come good in the final as well and help them lift a record 42nd Ranji title.

SHAHBAZ AHMED | BENGAL

Another all-round package whose game has grown leaps and bounds this season has been Bengal’s, Shahbaz Ahmed. The left-arm spinner has been handy in all three departments of the game this season for Bengal and was super influential in them reaching the semi-final of the competition.

Shahbaz who had a great time in the Indian T20 League carried his top form in the second half of the Ranji season, scoring his first-ever first-class hundred in the semi-final against MP. He also picked up 20 wickets in those five matches and saved some vital runs on the field for this state team.
