Team of the Season From the League Stage of Indian T20 League 2022

As we progress to the playoffs stage of the 2022 season of the Indian T20 League, it’s important to reward the players who were outstanding throughout the league stage of the competition. After analysing all the statistics and considering the impact each player had on the competition, here we’ve come up with the eleven standout players from the league stage who have made it to our team of the season.

One key thing to remember is that we’ve considered all regulations of the league regarding the playing XI and tried to cover all the bases a good T20 side needs to be competitive in the format.

JOS BUTTLER (Team Rajasthan)

First up is the leader in the race for the Orange cap, Team Rajasthan’s Jos Buttler. The opening batter had a stellar start to the competition as he notched up three centuries in virtually no time. In the last phase of the league stage, his performances have seen a slight dip but still he remains the best batter in the competition this season.

KL RAHUL (Team Lucknow)

Alongside Buttler, we have Team Lucknow’s captain KL Rahul opening the batting. Rahul is currently India’s best T20 batter and some may argue that he is the most in-form batter going around in world cricket currently. He has scored two centuries in the season already and will be a great partner to Buttler who can take the initiative in the powerplay while Rahul looks to play till the end.

RAHUL TRIPATHI (Team Hyderabad)

At number three we have Rahul Tripathi, a player who has been a consistent performer in the league for a few seasons now. What stood out in Tripathi’s game this season was his ability to transfer pressure with ease on the bowling side. He has struck at a rate higher than 160, batting at number three and that is commendable for a batter who isn’t necessarily known for his power game.

We have Liam Livingstone as the aggressor in the middle order who can play as a floater if need be. Nobody in world cricket in the current crop hits the ball harder than Liam. His 117 metres six off Mohammed Shami will for sure make the highlight reel of the league stage. Along with his power-hitting, Livingstone has taken his game up a notch with the kind of consistency he has shown in the competition. This was his breakthrough season in the Indian T20 League and it was a long time coming. Along with his batting prowess, Liam can be a handy sixth bowling option with his variation of leg and off spin.

DEEPAK HOODA (Team Lucknow)

Solidifying the middle order, we have Team Lucknow’s Deepak Hooda. Just like Liam, Deepak too can play the role of a floater pretty well. He has the ability to play a long and mature innings if need be at the same time and can strike the very first ball he faces for a six. He is a handy part-time option as well with the ball and is electric on the field.

HARDIK PANDYA (Team Gujarat) (Captain)

Leading the side, we have the most successful captain of the 2022 season, Gujarat’s very own Hardik Pandya. The Indian all-rounder has taken the responsibility of being the captain exceptionally well and it has reflected in the way his team has fared in the league stage. Pandya has normally batted higher up the order this season but we all know the power game he possesses and is the best-suited player at number six.

DINESH KARTHIK (Team Bangalore) (Wicket-Keeper)

Easily the finisher of the season award goes to Team Bangalore’s Dinesh Karthik. The way Karthik has won games single-handedly this season for his team has been truly beautiful to witness. He is a high impact player and will don the gloves for this side.

ANDRE RUSSELL (Team Kolkata)

The premier all-rounder of the league stage, Andre Russell was a no-brainer in this best XI. Even though Team Kolkata had a forgetful season, Russell did his bit with both bat and ball and is one of the highest impact players in the competition. Till the time Dre Russ is out in the middle, no match is over.

Leading the pace attack for this team is Punjab’s Kagiso Rabada. It was good to see the best of KG come out in this competition both with the new ball and at the back end of an innings. Rabada is the leading wicket-taker amongst pacers in the competition and has been in red hot form in the league stage.

The leader of the Purple cap award, Team Rajasthan’s willy spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is our specialist spinner in the XI. Chahal has been remarkable in the pink of Rajasthan this season and has been a great addition to a team that is pipped to win the competition.

UMRAN MALIK (Team Hyderabad)

Finally, we have the exciting Umran Malik as our out and out pace bowler who can blow through a batting order in the middle phase of the innings. He is the fastest bowler in the competition and batters seem afraid of his raw pace in the middle. He is a genuine wicket taker and on a bad day might turn out to be expensive but with the impact he has had on his good day, it is impossible to ignore his talent anymore.
