Delhi Capitals will take on Kings XI Punjab (DC vs KXIP) in the second match of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). This match will see two teams who have struggled to get close to the coveted trophy and will look to keep the baggage of previous seasons behind them and start afresh.
Both these teams are hunting for their maiden IPL trophy and come into this season with solid players in their squads. This season will see a new captain for Kings XI Punjab in KL Rahul and a new head coach in India’s leading wicket-taker in Test cricket, Anil Kumble. Punjab’s former captain Ravichandran Ashwin has been traded to the Delhi Capitals who are led by Shreyas Iyer.
When it comes to the head-to-head record in DC vs KXIP, Punjab have the wood over the Capitals. In 24 encounters, the Kings have emerged victorious on 14 occasions. In the previous five matches as well, the Kings have dominated the Delhi team, having won four out of the five matches.
Shikhar Dhawan vs KL Rahul
This will be the battle of two Indian openers. These two will continue to fight till the start of the 2021 T20 World Cup to clinch that second opener slot along with Rohit Sharma for the Indian team. IPL 2019 was a fruitful one for both these players. They were amongst the standout players in their teams and will look to continue those performances in this year’s IPL as well.
Shikhar averaged 34.73 in IPL 2019 and scored 60 percent of the opening runs for the Capitals, so can expect him to get IPL 2020 started with a bang.
KL Rahul finished IPL 2020 as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament. He averaged 53.90 in the tournament and scored six fifties in fourteen innings. He missed scoring big on both the occasions he played Delhi Capitals last year and will look to cash in this season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Prithvi Shaw enjoyed a great start to his IPL career in 2018. He became the joint-youngest player to score a fifty along with Sanju Samson in IPL history. The 2019 campaign was a disappointing one for Shaw on a personal note. For the team to do well this season they need Prithvi to fire and convert his starts to substantial scores.
Mohammed Shami was a death over specialist for Kings XI Punjab in 2019. With the introduction of Sheldon Cottrell in the team, it seems like Shami will continue to bowl in the death overs and keep taking wickets. He managed to pick up 14 wickets at the death last season but at a relatively higher economy of 9.73.
For the player performance of 20.50, Mohammed Shami needs to pick two wickets or one wicket and a catch.
Kagiso Rabada finished last season as the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL. He played five matches less than Imran Tahir who was the eventual Purple Cap winner. He bowled at the death as well for Delhi and was exceptional. He is a natural wicket-taker himself and picked up 19 wickets at the death overs in 2019.
He is expected to be amongst the leading wicket-takers again and can back him to pick two wickets or more.
