Jose Mourinho’s Spurs sit on the seventh position in the Premier League having played 15 games as their match against Fulham was postponed due to the rise of positive COVID-19 cases at Fulham. Next up for Tottenham are Leeds who are flying high after a 0-5 win against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
Here’s our preview of the game.
After a promising start to the season, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs have fallen off the boil in the last few fixtures. Spurs are winless in their last four matches and their last victory came in the North London Derby against Arsenal. Goalscoring has been an issue for the London-based club, and those clean sheets which they were achieving earlier in the season have gone missing now.
They concede one goal a game and that isn’t good enough for a team which has ambitions of finishing in the top four. Mourinho will have to tweak some things about his style of play and make sure that they dominate games more often. Against Leeds though, his game plan would be pretty straight forward. Mourinho will set his team up in a mid-block and would look to hurt Leeds on counter-attacks.
Jose Mourinho won’t have the luxury of naming Gareth Bale on the bench for this match as the Welshman is ruled out with a calf injury for a few weeks.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Hugo Lloris (GK) (C); Matt Doherty, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Sergio Reguilon; Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Moussa Sissoko; Son Heung-Min, Tanguy Ndombele, Steven Bergwijn; Harry Kane
Leeds United were at their very best in their previous match against West Bromwich Albion. They netted five goals against the Baggies and kept their fifth clean sheet of the season. Leeds scored some stunning goals in this game and Raphinha’s strike stands out from the rest. Marcelo Bielsa said that he liked all five goals in his post-match interview.
The Whites have ended 2020 on a promising note with back-to-back wins and will be confident of getting a result at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Seven out of the ten goals scored by Patrick Bamford this season have come on the road and he’ll look to add to that tally. Illan Meslier has the second-highest saves in the league and leads the way when it comes to punches committed by a keeper. The young French keeper has had an impressive start to his life in the Premier League and has been brilliant with back-to-back clean sheets in the previous two matches.
PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Illan Meslier (GK); Stuart Dallas, Luke Ayling (C), Pascal Struijk, Ezgjan Alioski; Kalvin Phillips; Mateusz Klich, Rodrigo Moreno, Raphinha, Jack Harrison; Patrick Bamford
