Brazilian attacking midfielder Marcelinho made his debut for the Mariners in a mother of all comebacks against Kerala Blasters FC in match number 78 of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-20. Roy Krishna stole the show in this eye-catching 3-2 win at the Fatorda Stadium, but the centre-back in Sandesh Jhingan and attacking midfielder Marcelinho were also immense in this particular encounter.
The Mariners were looking to get back to winning ways after an unsuccessful game against NorthEast United FC. ATK Mohun Bagan found themselves behind in the game at the first-half courtesy a marvellous long-range goal by Kerala’s star striker Gary Hooper. The Mariners were majestic in the second half yet again as they scored thrice which included a debut goal by Marcelinho and a brace by Roy Krishna to seal the three points for Antonio Lopez Habas’ team.
Here are all the top Mariners from ATK Mohun Bagan vs Kerala Blasters.
ROY KRISHNA – 9/10
It isn’t surprising at all that Roy Krishna took home a 9/10 rating following a world-class performance in front of goal. The Fiji striker got on the scoresheet twice and completed the comeback in the 87th minute. He was yet again sharp throughout the game and easily the best player on the pitch.
MARCELINHO – 8.5/10
In a big move, this transfer window saw Marcelinho join ATK Mohun Bagan from Odisha FC and Bradden Inman going the other way. There was plenty of anticipation about Marcelinho’s debut with the Mariners and the Brazilian magician didn’t disappoint one bit as he went on to open the scoring for his team. Roy Krishna and he led the way when it came to the attacking play in this game and Habas would be hoping that the pair could forge a strong partnership at the top end of the pitch.
SANDESH JHINGAN – 8/10
Pretty early in the game around the four-minute mark, Sandesh Jhingan ensured that his team didn’t go behind as he put his body on the line and blocked the shot from Sahal Abdul Samad. It is this sort of unsung defending which ensures that a team becomes a title contender and Jhingan always gives it his all on the pitch for his team. He was yet again solid when it came to his defensive play and impressively enough, even created a chance upfront.
Antonio Lopez Habas made two chances at the half time and in came Manvir Singh for Sumit Rathi. His wonderfully weighted pass resulted in an assist for Marcelinho and got the Mariners back in the contest. At the 63rd minute, he hustled the opposition captain Jessel Carneiro in committing a mistake in the box and earned his team a deserved penalty. Throughout the second half, he was pretty lively and certainly deserves to start the game on a more regular basis.
PRITAM KOTAL – 7/10
The captain for the night, Pritam Kotal played magnificently well in this match. He is a delight for any manager in the versatility he provides to the team. He started the match on the right-back position but throughout the second half played on the other wing as the left-back. He even had a shot on goal which had to be saved by Albino Gomes in the Kerala goal. He led his team from the front and deserves to be on this list.
