Leeds United vs Newcastle United will kickstart the busy December period for the Whites as they welcome the Magpies at Elland Road on Wednesday night. Historically, Newcastle have had the upper hand over the Peacocks in the Premier League. They have managed to win on 11 occasions and drawn six times in the 22 games between the two.
Here’s how both teams are shaping up ahead of this crucial encounter.
The Whites sit on the 14th position in the Premier League table having won just four out of twelve matches played so far. After a promising start, they seem to have gone off the boil in the last few fixtures and it can soon become a concern for Marcelo Bielsa. The team is creating enough chances to win games and it’s just a matter of one game where it clicks for them and they will get back to winning ways. They are up against Newcastle in their next match, a team which has just kept two clean sheets so far in the Premier League.
If they manage to avoid conceding from set-pieces then they should have enough quality to get all three points from this match. Their record at Elland Road hasn’t been the greatest so far on their return to the Premier League after 16 years. They have missed their loyal fans dearly and it has shown in a few of the performances. Bielsa and his coaching team will look to put this right starting with this game.
Expect them to name more or less the same team which started against West Ham in the previous fixture. The coaching staff would be hoping that the club’s leading goalscorer, Patrick Bamford and the record signing Rodrigo Moreno forge a formidable partnership in attack very soon. Expect them to have the majority of possession as Steve Bruce would set his team up in a low block and will look to hurt Leeds on the counter.
Steve Bruce has so far done a steady job with Newcastle in the Premier League. They comfortably sit on the 12th position in the table having won five out of their twelve matches. They are on a strong run currently having won back-to-back games against Crystal Palace and West Brom.
Steve Bruce has a couple of systems which he can go for in this game but our guess is that he’ll look for a conservative approach and will look to hurt Leeds on the counter with the pace of Joelinton, Callum Wilson and Dwight Gayle.
They will be without their star winger Allan Saint-Maximin who wasn’t seen in the recent training pictures and would hope that their two forwards in Joelinton and Callum Wilson cause enough problems to the Leeds defence.
