The 2021-22 Premier League season may just be in its early stage but there have been some outstanding moments of magic from these seven matchdays already. The season has witnessed some pure scenes of exhilaration whether it was a winning goal or a match-saving penalty. With the fans back in the stadiums for the season, it has no doubt added to the spectacle. The players seem to be ready to go an extra yard due to the atmosphere in and around these clubs and it has been reflected in the performances that have been on show so far.
Here we are looking at five such instances that have stood out from the 2021-22 Premier League season so far.
BRENTFORD’S CELEBRATION POST ARSENAL WIN
Brentford’s arrival in the Premier League is a breath of fresh air that the league needed. Their stadium is named the Brentford Community Stadium and it sure is a community club where every person in the area seems to be involved in the community. The crowd singing the famous Bettles song ‘Hey Jude’ after the win against Arsenal in their first Premier League match will go down as one of the most iconic moments from the 2021-22 Premier League season.
DAVID DE GEA’S INCREDIBLE PENALTY SAVE
David de Gea faced plenty of flak last season when the Manchester United keeper failed to save a single penalty in the shootout against Villarreal in the Europa League final. So when Mark Noble came off the bench to take a last-minute penalty against de Gea to salvage a point at the London Stadium, it became redemption time for the Spanish goalkeeper. Not only did he make an incredible save, but he also helped his team win three vital points that could prove key ahead in the season.
ANDROS TOWNSEND PULLING OFF THE ‘SIU CELEBRATION’
Sticking with Manchester United, we saw some notoriously funny stuff take place in their game against Everton when the Blues’ winger Andros Townsend copied Cristino Ronaldo’s trademark ‘Siu’ celebration in front of the United faithful. In a radio interview, Townsend goes on to explain why he copied that celebration and how it was pre-planned with some of his teammates. Townsend went on to tell the viewers that he actually got Ronaldo’s jersey after the match, imagine the guts on the guy! First, he takes the mickey out of a great footballer like Ronaldo in his own backyard and then gets his jersey as well. Well done, Andros.
RAUL JIMENEZ GETS BACK ON THE SCORESHEET
The football world suffered together when Raul Jimenz suffered that horrendous blow on his head in the match at the Emirates last season. Jimenez had a fractured skull post that incident and was away from football for quite a substantial period. So when he found the back of the net in the game against Southampton this season, it marked his first goal after that dreadful injury and it was a moment to cherish for all football fans out there irrespective of their allegiances.
PEP GUARDIOLA’S FIGHT NIGHT AT ANFIELD
Liverpool vs Manchester City over the last few years has been the fixture of the footballing calendar as two of the best teams in Europe go head-on at a special stadium like Anfield. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have had some tough visits to Anfield in the previous few seasons but last year they broke the streak and won comfortably albeit in an empty stadium.
The stage was beautifully set yet again as the top two teams in the league took each other on. City were by far the better team in the first half but they didn’t make Jurgen Klopp’s Reds pay. Liverpool found the net first but were soon equalised by City. At 1-1, there was a moment where according to Pep, James Milner should have been sent off for a second yellow card but the referee let the veteran get away with a lazy tackle. That made Guardiola go berserk on the touchline and even his cardigan came off during that rant and it looked like he was ready for a fight night at Anfield with his antics. The match eventually finished 2-2, a great advert for the league leaving Guardiola wondering what would have happened had that red card been produced to Milner.
