LUFC’s Week Ahead Studded With Two Crucial Premier League Clashes

Leeds United FC (LUFC) have a crucial week ahead in the Premier League where they’ll look to get back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Next up will be Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Southampton at home, which will be followed by Aston Villa’s visit to Elland Road in the weekend. Six important points are there for the taking as the Whites are looking to consolidate a top-half finish in the Premier League on their return to the first division after 16 years.

Here we take a look at the two LUFC fixtures in detail:

LEEDS UNITED vs SOUTHAMPTON

LUFC will welcome Southampton at Elland Road on Tuesday night. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs in the top-flight of English football since January 2004.

After suffering seven consecutive defeats, Southampton broke the wretched run of form with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the Saint Mary’s Stadium. On form, the Saints are on the worst side in the Premier League and sit one place below the Whites in the table.

Leeds suffered an unlucky defeat in the previous game against Wolves at the Molineux Stadium but there were plenty of positives to draw from that match.

This game promises to be an attacking fest as two high pressing teams would go head-to-head for the first time in the league this season.

LEEDS UNITED vs ASTON VILLA

The reverse fixture of this encounter was a comfortable 0-3 win for the Whites at Villa Park back in October 2020. We witnessed some Bamford magic in that match as he scored a remarkable hat-trick to stamp his authority in the league.

That stands as Villa’s worst defeat so far in the Premier League this season. Plenty has changed since that fixture as Aston Villa went on a good run of form and are sitting pretty at the eighth position in the table.

Leeds will have to be wary of Aston Villa’s lethal ability on the counter-attack as in Ollie Watkins and Jack Grealish they have two in-form players in their attack. The battle between Watkins and Patrick Bamford will be a fascinating one to witness as both the English strikers have an outside chance of making it to the national team given the kind of goalscoring ability the two have exhibited in the league this season. With plenty of English talent on display in this match, expect Gareth Southgate, England’s Head Coach, to tune in with intent as he looks to name his England team for the upcoming international matches.
