A majority of the European leagues are coming to their business end and there’s only one question on everyone’s minds – who are the runaway leaders and who all could potentially be the dark horses in the four top European leagues? With no further adieu, let’s get straight into it.
PREMIER LEAGUE | ENGLAND
The previous season saw the 30-year-long wait for a league title being broken in the red half of Merseyside as Liverpool went on to lift the title under their German manager Jurgen Klopp. This season hasn’t gone exactly according to the plan as injuries to key personnel in the squad has meant that Liverpool are no longer in the title race to defend the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are back to their high standards after a disappointing previous season and look like the runaway leaders in the league. At the end of Matchweek 26, City are currently 14 points in front of their neighbours Manchester United who are currently second and are looking class apart. The fifth Premier League title seems all set in the bags of the Citizens.
SERIE A | ITALY
Things are looking quite intense in Serie A as three teams look alive in the title race. Juventus have won the Scudetto for nine consecutive seasons and were looking to make it an even ten, but Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan and Stefano Piolo’s AC Milan sit above them in the points table.
Given Inter’s unbeaten run and Conte’s winning mentality, Inter seem most likely to break Juventus’ run this season, though AC Milan are in hot pursuit for the top position. This is one season that is sure to go down to the wire till the last matchweek.
LA LIGA | SPAIN
The battle for the La Liga title seemed all but over a few weeks back when Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid were running away with the league but after a poor run of form for Atleti, the race seems back on.
Atletico still are top of the table at the end of Matchweek 25 with a gap of five points and a game in hand over Barcelona and Real Madrid. Sevilla are also alive in this contest and this one could go down to the wire for the league winner. A sure treat for the Spanish football faithful!
BUNDESLIGA | GERMANY
The champions of the world, Bayern Munich have for years been the dominant team in the Bundesliga and in Europe. But Julian Nagelsmann’s RB Leipzig has other ideas this season as they are just two points away from the league leaders, Bayern Munich and are giving them a tough fight.
A slip from either of these teams can tilt the title in the other’s favour and both the coaches need to ensure their players are up to the task. However, by the looks of it, even this will be another race that can go on till the final matchday.
