Players Who Have Impressed So Far in Hero ISL 2020-21

The new entrants ATK Mohun Bagan have been the team to beat so far in Hero ISL 2020-21, while NorthEast United FC, Bengaluru FC and Hyderabad FC are the other undefeated teams in the league after match week three.

The games have been tightly fought and have been tactically brilliant to watch. The quality of football is apparent and one can see how Indian football is moving in the right direction. Hero ISL 2020-21 so far promises to be the most competitive season ever because of the quality all teams have in the league this year. But there are always some players who stand out in the season.

Here are the top players who have impressed in Hero ISL 2020-21 so far.

TIRI (ATK Mohun Bagan)

The centre-back is key to the rock-solid defence that Antonio Lopez Habas’ team has displayed in their three matches. He plays in the middle of the three centre backs and his partnership with Sandesh Jhingan and Pritam Kotal seems like a dream combination in defence. He has completed almost 100 passes in the first three matches he has featured in this season with a brilliant pass completion rate of 76%. His ability to whip long balls behind the opposition defence for Roy Krishna to run at is a delight to watch. He exudes calmness and has easily been the best centre back in the league so far.

NERIJUS VALSKIS (Jamshedpur FC)

Three matches and three goals for last seasons’ golden boot winner, Nerijus Valskis. He finds himself in new colours this year with Jamshedpur FC but the goal scoring ability of the Lithuanian striker is not to be questioned. He is averaging a goal per game at the start of the season and Owen Coyle would be hoping that his goalscoring form continues till the end.

ROY KRISHNA (ATK Mohun Bagan)

It seems impossible for defenders in the Hero ISL to stop Roy Krishna. The forward from Fiji is ruthless in front of goal and if you give him any space in the box he will punish you. He has found the back of the net in three straight matches and his last minute goal against Odisha FC ensured that ATK Mohun Bagan’s unbeaten run continued till matchweek three. He was recently crowned as the Hero of the month for November and he fully deserves it.

ADAM LE FONDRE (Mumbai City FC)

Alfie has had a dream start to his career in the ISL with three goals in three starts. He started the first match on the right wing and Mumbai went on to lose the game against NorthEast United FC. Since then Sergio Lobera has deployed him as the striker of the team keeping another Hero ISL legend Bartholomew Ogbeche on the bench. His work rate is exceptional and he is lethal in front of goal. He seems like the perfect striker for the football Sergio Lobera wants to play with Mumbai City FC.

IGOR ANGULO (FC Goa)

Before the Hero ISL 2020-21 season, FC Goa had the most successful striker in the league in Ferran Corominas. They parted ways ahead of the season and to replace him FC Goa roped in another Spanish striker Igor Angulo. The forward seems well suited to Indian football and with his clever movements and precise finishing he is for sure going to score a lot of goals in the current season for the Gaurs. His brace against Bengaluru FC was a prime example of his quality.
